How we score plumbers in Klang Valley

Klang Valley Plumber Guide currently scores 248 plumbing businesses across the Klang Valley. Every score is built from the same published rubric, run the same way on every listing, so a business in Petaling Jaya and one in Ampang are measured on identical terms. This page explains what goes into the number, why we weighted it the way we did, and where the number should and shouldn't be trusted.

The five signals, heaviest first

Each business gets a composite score out of 100, built from five measured signals:

  • Sentiment, 28%: a synthesis of what recent reviews actually describe, praise and complaints alike.
  • Rating, 26%: the business's aggregate Google star rating.
  • Volume, 20%: how many reviews the business has, log-scaled so a business with hundreds of reviews isn't matched by one with a handful.
  • Recency, 10%: how recently customers have actually left reviews.
  • Completeness, 16%: whether basic listing details are present, phone number, website, operating hours, and address.

Why sentiment carries the most weight

A star average is a single number, and single numbers hide patterns. Two plumbers can sit at the same 4.2 stars while telling very different stories underneath: one has scattered, unrelated gripes, the other has the same complaint showing up again and again, say, no-shows, or being upsold on jobs that didn't need doing. The star rating alone won't tell you which is which. Reading what recent reviews actually say, and looking for repeated themes rather than one-off bad days, is the only way to catch that difference. That's why sentiment is weighted above the star rating itself, and why it's the first thing we compute rather than an afterthought.

Why the other signals matter

Rating still counts for a lot, it's the most familiar signpost customers already use, and it's a fast cross-check against our own sentiment read. Volume matters because a 5-star average built on three reviews tells you almost nothing, while the same average across 300 reviews is much harder to fake or fluke, hence the log scale, which rewards more reviews without letting a business with thousands drown out one with dozens of genuinely good ones. Recency matters because plumbing businesses change hands, hire new staff, and shift quality over time; a glowing review from 2021 says little about who shows up at your door today. Completeness matters for a plainer reason: a business you can't call, can't find hours for, or can't locate isn't much use to you no matter how good the work is.

Where the score runs out of confidence

We're upfront about the limits. Businesses with few recent reviews don't have enough signal to score reliably, so they get a low-confidence score and are labelled as such on their listing. We don't republish review text wholesale; instead we synthesise what recent reviews say into a plain-language summary, and we link back to the source on Google so you can read the originals yourself and judge for you.

Scores are earned, not edited

Every score on this site comes from the rubric above and the underlying data, full stop. Paid placement, where it exists on this site, is always labelled clearly as such and never changes a business's score, position, or sentiment summary. If a "best of" list ever involves editorial picks or ordering beyond the raw score, that involvement is disclosed on the page itself, for example our bathroom and toilet renovation and fitting guide.

Who's behind this

Klang Valley Plumber Guide is published by Meridian Guides, an independent publisher of city directories for everyday services across Malaysia, started in 2025 with plumbers in the Klang Valley as its first city guide. Meridian Guides applies this same published scoring method to every business it features, across every directory on meridianguides.my. Rankings are never for sale: sponsored listings are labelled plainly, and no payment ever changes a score. Editorial oversight of these rankings sits with Janice, Editor, and listing data is re-checked monthly to keep it current, with a "last verified" stamp on each listing showing that maintenance is actually happening rather than assumed. Questions, corrections, or a business you think we've got wrong: reach the publisher at hello@meridianguides.my.

FAQ

How often is the data updated?
We refresh listing data monthly across all 248 businesses. Each listing also carries its own "last verified" stamp so you can see when it was last checked, rather than trusting a general claim of freshness.
Can a plumber pay to raise their score?
No. Scores come only from the rubric on this page, sentiment, rating, volume, recency and completeness, applied to public data. Paid placements, where they exist, are always labelled and never affect the score, ranking, or sentiment summary.
Why do some listings show a low-confidence label?
A business with only a handful of recent reviews doesn't give us enough signal to score reliably, especially for sentiment and recency. Rather than presenting that as a solid number, we label it low-confidence so you know to weigh it accordingly.
Do you publish the actual review text?
No, we synthesise recent reviews into a plain-language summary of recurring praise and complaints rather than republishing them. We link out to the listing on Google so you can read the original reviews at the source.
