What is PPR pipe?

PPR pipe is a plastic water pipe made from polypropylene random copolymer, connected using heat-fusion joints and used for indoor hot and cold water lines.

PPR stands for polypropylene random copolymer, a thermoplastic polymer material engineered to carry both hot and cold water safely inside homes and buildings. The pipe is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and widely installed in Klang Valley renovations as an alternative to copper or galvanized steel piping.

The defining feature of PPR piping is its heat-fused connection system. Rather than threaded fittings or solder joints, PPR pipes and fittings are joined by heating them to a precise temperature (typically around 260°C) until the surfaces soften, then pressed together to form a permanent, watertight seal. This fusion process creates joints as strong as the pipe itself, eliminating the risk of threaded leaks over time.

PPR pipe performs well across Malaysia's climate. It withstands hot water temperatures up to 70°C continuously, making it suitable for both supply lines and recirculation systems. The material does not degrade from mineral deposits, rust, or chemical corrosion common in local water supplies. Installation is faster than traditional piping methods because fittings require no threading, soldering, or curing time, reducing labor costs on renovation projects.

Sizing in Malaysia typically ranges from 20mm to 40mm diameter for residential use. The pipes remain flexible enough to navigate tight spaces but rigid enough to support their own weight without extensive bracketing. Many plumbing providers in the region now stock PPR systems as standard for water distribution, whether for new construction or complete home retrofitting.
